I'm presenting at the 2025 Open Hardware Summit

I'm excited to announce that in one month's time I'm presenting at @oshwassociation's Open Hardware Summit 2025. My talk's titled "VanSpoof and F**dG3ar: Reverse engineering proprietary bike components to prevent e-waste" and covers everything involved in designing replacement, open source, parts to repair VanMoof e-bikes.

A lot of you will have got the gist of things from my blog posts over the past few months, but this talk will round off all the work I've put in and tie it all together as a single thread. I'm on at 5:30 PM on Friday 30th May, so if the intersection of geeky and bikes interests you, please come along!

I'm presenting at the 2025 Open Hardware Summit

The summit runs over two days, 30th–31st May, hosted at The Nucleus Building, part of the University of Edinburgh's King's Buildings Campus.

Whether you're an artist exploring technology in your work, a scientist interested in open tools, a business owner looking to connect with the open hardware community, or just someone curious about making and DIY projects—this event is for you. The summit explicitly welcomes both experienced open hardware veterans and newcomers to the field, making it a perfect opportunity to learn and connect with others. There are talks on the first day, workshops and panels on the second day, and tables across both days.

I've already started building out my itinerary of must-see talks, including this one about selling open hardware products with Josh from Crowd Supply, Kliment's talk on volunteering for KiCad, and this one from Martin about building test systems.

I'm sure to see folks popping in and out, but I'll also be in Edinburgh the night before, so if anyone wants to meet up, give me a shout. It also sounds like there are folks meeting up on Wednesday in London then traveling north on Thursday if you want to extend the festivities. Check out the discord

I'll have stickers with me, so track me down if you want to add to your collection. I'll also be bringing a limited quantity of "Spy! Break! Inject!" kits with me, so if you want to swap dev boards, or if you have a cool project you think could use one, hit me up! Anything left over will be popped back up on my Tindie store once I get home, so don't worry if you miss me.

For now, mark your calendars for May 30th–31st, and I hope to see you in Edinburgh! If you know anyone who might be interested, please share this invitation with them—the more, the merrier!

Buy your tickets or attend virtually, here!
